Tottenham ARE trying to seal January transfer swoop before Thursday's deadline. Tottenham are in the market for a January signing — but it is likely to be a youngster, rather than a big name.
The only club not to sign a new player in the summer window remain keen on Leeds' Jack Clarke, the 18-year-old winger who is being chased by a host of Premier League clubs, and hope to get a deal done as they view him as one for the future.
Championship leaders Leeds have made it very clear they are not willing to sell before Thursday night's 11pm deadline, so it may be a question of Spurs trying to broker some sort of loan-back agreement for a player they rate highly.
With Tottenham's FA Cup conquerors Crystal Palace having already had a bid for Clarke rejected, Leeds know they have a hot property on their hands. But they want to keep him to help their push for that long-awaited return to the Premier League after 15 years away.
However, Spurs are not likely to be in the market for Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot.
The France midfielder is widely expected to join Barcelona in the summer.
The make-up of Tottenham ’s squad also means a home-grown signing is far more likely.
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed they will add defender Juan Foyth to their Champions League squad in place of midfielder Mousa Dembele, who has joined Chinese Premier League side Guangzhou R&F.
That means their only other remaining place is for a British player, unless another overseas player departs, which is why they are looking at young prospects not more-established names.
