Ozil has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates this season and hasn't featured for the Gunners since being hooked at half time in the draw against Brighton on Boxing Day.
The midfielder has suffered a knee injury in the time since, but Emery openly admitted in a press conference that he overlooked Ozil for the West Ham defeat for 'tactical' reasons.
Ozil appears to be suffering from a lack of confidence, and the 30-year-old has even been linked with a move away from Arsenal this January.
Lehmann has spoken out about Ozil's situation, and believes the World Cup winner needs to ask Emery for help.
"Our Germany mentality is sometimes different," Lehmann told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
"We don't ask our managers or coaches to put an arm around us. If you have a problem on the pitch, you're expected to sort it out yourself.
"When I came to England, my English team-mates told me about their mentality that actually sometimes you need an arm around you and that the manager is supposed to help you on the pitch."
